Jelena James

Upon graduating from Hollins University with an Art History degree and acquiring a Diploma in Antiquity through Renaissance from the Royal Society of Arts and Christie's Auction Education in London, Jelena embarked on a career in the auction industry that has spanned nearly two
decades, honing her skills in art evaluation, research, authentication, content writing, programme management and event coordination. Jelena forges and nurtures lasting relationships with clients and institutions, working closely with them to augment and develop their fine art collections.

Throughout her career at New Orleans Auction Galleries where she most recently served as a Director of Fine Art, Jelena has implemented and curated a range of specialty fine art auctions. Following global trends, Jelena spearheaded the Modern and Contemporary Art and Design auctions, with the inaugural sale in 2021 grossing an impressive $1.8 million for approximately 255 lots, resulting in an 86% sell-through rate and setting numerous record sales in the process, and showcasing her ability to attract and engage both buyers and sellers. She has handled many estates, most recently The Estate of Howard and Ann Barnett, grossing $667,900, accounting for a third of the total revenue in the March 2024 auction at New Orleans Auction Galleries.

In addition, her commitment to philanthropy and community engagement led to a creation of a special Non-Profit programme that sold artwork to raise funds for a non-profit institution.

Jelena continues to innovate and drive success, remaining steadfast in her mission to connect clients with exceptional works of art while fostering a culture of integrity and excellence within the American & European fine art team.
