
Krystal Liu
Krystal Liu is an Associate Specialist of Chinese art at Bonhams in New York. Her areas of expertise include Chinese painting, calligraphy, furniture and scholar's objects.
Since joining Bonhams in 2022, Krystal has been supporting both the Chinese art sales in New York and the Chinese painting sales in Hong Kong. She authored the essay for the cover lot of the sale J. J. Lally & Co: Fine Chinese Works of Art, A Rare Chased Silver 'Literary Gathering' Pictorial Tray, and was significantly contributed to the sale of The Mary and Cheney Cowles Collection of Classical Chinese Furniture, which fetched a total of US$7.3 million.
Before joining Bonhams, Krystal worked with Chinese classical furniture dealer Nicholas Grindley, the Loewentheil Collection of China Photography and Christie's New York, acquiring a wide range of knowledge in various media. She holds a Master's degree in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, specialising in pre-modern Chinese painting, with particular interests lying in the compositional transformation of figural painting across different media and periods, and studied artists such as Li Gonglin (1049-1106), Chen Hongshou (1598-1652) and Zhang Yin (1761-1829).
Krystal is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English.
