Allison Rabinowitz

Allison Rabinowitz is a Specialist for Bonhams Indian, Himalayan & Southeast Asian Art department in New York. She provides expertise and valuation of objects in our sales of Indian, Himalayan, and Southeast Asian works of art. She holds particular interest in Nepalese works of art and their influence on masterworks in Tibetan bronzes and thangkas.

Allison graduated cum laude from Franklin & Marshall College, Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor's degree in Art and Art History and gained a Master's degree with distinction in Buddhist Art and Conservation from the Courtauld Institute of Art. As part of her training at the Courtauld, she travelled to China, studying conservation of the caves of Dunhuang and the monasteries at Wutai Shan. She then worked with a Buddhist organisation where she travelled extensively in Nepal, further cultivating her knowledge and interest in the field of Himalayan art.

Prior to joining Bonhams in August 2022, Allison worked in the Indian, Himalayan and Southeast Asian department at Sotheby's for over four years, cultivating her knowledge as a specialist in the field and selling masterworks including a 13th century mandala which made a record price at auction for the sale of a Tibetan painting.
