Giacomo Balsamo

Giacomo Balsamo is International Director of Post-War & Contemporary Art and acquires business for Bonhams London, Paris, Hong Kong and New York auctions, with a particular focus on European clients. His areas of expertise include European and American post-war art from the 1940s to 1970s, the Japanese Gutai movement and Chinese artists living in Paris after World War II, such as Zao Wou-Ki and Chu Teh-Chun.

Giacomo joined Bonhams in 2010 and among his exceptional sales is the white glove auction Voyages of Discovery in Hong Kong in May 2012, which achieved HK$63.4million. He secured the top price for a 1952 painting by Lucio Fontana in 2014, as well as the auction record for any Gutai sculpture with the sale of Untitled (Red Fan) by Kazuo Shiraga in 2015 (£1.5million).

Italian by birth and raised and educated in Monaco, Giacomo comes to the auction world with a deep understanding of both cultures, complemented by an academic background in finance and art.

Giacomo is fluent in English, Italian and French. He is a Trustee of FAI UK, the UK branch of the Italian National Trust.
