
May Matthews
May Matthews is Specialist and Head of Sale for Scottish Art and Managing Director of Bonhams Scotland. She has a particular interest in East Lothian artists, such as W.D. McKay, Robert Noble, Sir William Gillies and John Bellany.
Since joining Bonhams in 2004, May's exceptional sales include one of the earliest known depictions of a football game by Alexander Carse, which sold for £266,250 in 2006. In 2021, she consigned a beautiful still life by George Leslie Hunter, which sold for £106,500. She also had the privilege of bringing to auction two stunning still life paintings by S.J. Peploe on behalf of Amnesty International, which sold for a combined total of £300,500.
May graduated from Edinburgh University.
