Matthew Haley

Matthew Haley is Managing Director of Bonhams Knightsbridge and has been Head of Bonhams UK Books & Manuscripts Department since 2013. In 2004, he joined Bonhams in London as a specialist in the Books Department, and his baptism of fire was one of the finest libraries of angling books ever to have been offered at auction. Soon Matthew branched out into 19th Century photography - particularly of India. Between 2008 and 2013, Matthew worked in Bonhams New York office, and created a series of Space History auctions, initially commemorating the 40th Anniversary of man's first steps on the Moon. He has also spent periods working in the company's Los Angeles office.

In his time as director and auctioneer, Matthew has sold the 1494 edition of Columbus' letter on the discovery of America, the Library of the late Hugh Selbourne, the Library of Wassenaar Zoo, the sledge from Ernest Shackleton's 1909 Antarctic expedition and Henri Matisse's Jazz.

Matthew graduated from Oxford University with an M.A. in English Literature, and is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. He also appears on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow.
