Ellis Finch
Ellis Finch is Head of Bonhams' Silver department in London. Starting in 1996 he has more than 25 years' experience in silver, responsible for standalone silver sales and sales among the Fine Decorative Arts group.
His personal achievements include successfully establishing the Silver and Post War Design sales, inspired by his passion for the subject, and bringing to market silver from the Gerald Benney family reserve collection, and the Gerald and Janet Benney Estate.
With the aim of bringing silver design to a wider audience, Ellis - working with Contemporary British Silversmiths - took the 'Silver Speaks' contemporary silver exhibition at The Victoria and Albert Museum straight from exhibition to auction. The successful sale resulted in Kevin Grey's Animus achieving £72,500, a record price for a contemporary piece of silver at auction.
Other personal highlights was selling the magnificent Earl of Pembroke candelabra by Paul Storr for £236,750, which had been in private ownership unrecorded for almost over a century. Also the exceptional result for the rare American silver and enamelled 'Lap-Over-Edge' flatware service, by Tiffany & Co, achieving £334,200.
Ellis has played a major part in numerous highly successful auctions including the silver in the important sale of Dutch collector Cornelis Paulus van Pauwvliet.
