Amayès Aouli, Global Head of Wine & Spirits, Bonhams said: "Bonhams is delighted to partner with Delamain to bring global collectors a slice of Cognac's immense history. Encapsulating 200 years, L'Edition Rare du Bicentenaire, is not only a unique museum piece, but a stunning work of art and craftsmanship designed by Maison Goossens. It is a magnificent time capsule, bridging the past to the future. As pioneers of the spirits auction market, Bonhams is honoured to offer one of the most incredible and rarest Cognacs ever produced."
Eric Le Bouar, Managing Director of the House of Delamain, added: "This is obviously a very special year for the House of Delamain as we take a deeper look back on two centuries of enlightened though, creative passion for the natural world and obsessive determination to craft cognacs like no other. We feel grateful to the past generations, to the men and women who have patiently preserved and passed down their most precious savoir-faire and eaux-de-vie. Now as then, Nature, Time and People are at the very heart of everything we do, and the most exquisite cognacs lie ahead."
Founded in 1824, Delamain this year celebrates a 200-year journey immersed in the art of crafting exceptional Grande Champagne cognacs. To mark the occasion, the House is unveiling a limited-edition blend of extra-old cognacs – L'Edition Rare du Bicentenaire. The cognac combines five extremely rare eaux-de-vie, each selected and nurtured by one of the last five generations of the Delamain family and blended by the House's two last Cellar Masters.
The legendary blend is presented in an iconic 10-litre dame-jeanne decorated by the Maison d'Art Goossens, one of the 12 Maisons d'Art reunited by CHANEL at the 19M building in Paris, an exceptional architectural achievement which aims to showcase the savoir-faire of artisans and creators. The choice of Goossens reflects Delamain's uncompromising standards. Goossens was founded in the early 1950s by Robert Goossens, a brilliant goldsmith, craftsman and free creative spirit. Driven by a taste for challenge, Goossens' artisans approach creativity with boldness and character, always ready to push boundaries – a heritage that lives on today in handcrafted, hammered, patinated decorative objects adorned with stones, each one-of-a-kind. The two Houses' shared passion for craftsmanship and excellence naturally prompted Delamain to call on the goldsmithing expertise of Goossens. Matching an organic, mineral approach with a distinctive style, Goossens further echoes Delamain's sensibility for interweaving the wonders of nature with exacting craftsmanship.
Expanding on this historic release, Delamain has also created 200 limited-edition bottles of the same blend for the enlightened connoisseurs, integrating a commemorative medallion designed by Goossens (available for sale from December 2024 in selected stores around the world).
Delamain is organising with Bonhams several celebrations to mark the house's 200th anniversary in 2024, including a series of Cognac tastings of the eaux-de-vie making up the blend of this legendary cognac at Bonhams' salerooms in London, New York, Paris and Hong Kong:
