Largest Private Collection of Jessica Dismorr Works Ever to be Offered at Auction Comes to Bonhams

London – The largest private collection of works by the British Painter Jessica Dismorr known to exist is among the highlights of the sale Blazing a Trail: Modern British Women at Bonhams New Bond Street which runs from 9-18 September. The Quentin Stevenson Collection of Works by Jessica Dismorr comprises 19 exceptional examples spanning over 20 years, including The Last Self Portrait, circa 1933, which has an estimate of £8,000 - 12,000.

The unprecedented size of the Dismorr Collection being offered at the Blazing a Trail sale includes many exceptional works illustrating the artist's stylistic development over two decades. From early watercolours to later oils, The Quentin Stevenson Collection traces Dismorr's extraordinary career as a Modern female artist. Blazing a Trail: Modern British Women is not a sale to be missed."

One of only two women to be members of the Vorticist movement, and the only female contributor to Group X, Jessica Dismorr's oeuvre is of great significance. Exhibiting with the Allied Artists Association, the Seven and Five Society and the London Group, as well as displaying her abstract works at the Artists' International Exhibition of 1937, Dismorr blazed a trail in Modern British Art.

Additional highlights of the sale include:

• An oil painting by the British painter Dame Laura Knight (1877-1970), Paddock at Ascot, circa 1936, leads the sale with an estimate of £60,000 - 80,000.

• Two unique works by the English Sculptor Emily Young (born 1951). Fertility Torso with Head, carved in 2008, amber onyx on a bronze plinth, 120cm excluding the plinth, has an estimate of £25,000 - 35,000.

• A selection of scenes at the seaside by the British painter Dorothea Sharp (1874-1955). A Day at the Seaside, oil on canvas, has an estimate of £8,000 - 12,000.

• A selection of works by the English painter Winifred Nicholson (1893-1981). Christmas Present, painted in 1948, has an additional painting of a woman playing the piano to the canvas verso, and is offered with an estimate of £20,000 - 30,000.

The sale will feature works by many other notable artists including Vanessa Bell, Maggi Hambling, Dame Tracey Emin, Sophie Ryder, Bridget Riley, Beryl Cook, Dame Elisabeth Frink, and Margaret Mellis.
