1966 Aston Martin DB6 and 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S Top Sellers at Bicester
A duo of sports coupés produced 50 years apart led Saturday's (17 July) MPH July Sale at Bicester Heritage, which offered more than 120 modern, popular and historic vehicles, realising a strong sell-through rate of 73 per cent.
The top lot was a 1966 Aston Martin DB6 Sports Saloon, the last of the line which made £118,125. Offered at no reserve, this example required recommissioning following a period in storage.
Another sports coupé from the modern era was also successfully sold for a six-figure sum – a 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupé, which achieved £105,750. The pinnacle 991.2 variant had covered just over 11,000 miles from new.
The third motor car to break the £100,000 barrier in Saturday's live and drive-through auction was a future classic 2018 Bentley Bentayga, which sold for £100,125. Powered by Bentley's renowned 6.0-litre W12 engine, this example was another low-mileage motor car with 14,000 miles on the odometer.
As ever, the MPH sale encompassed a broad range of vehicles representing more than a century of motoring. Other highlights of the drive-through sale which was broadcast via bonhams.com and goodwood.com included:
'The Oxford to Arizona' 2010 Land Rover Defender 130 Nene Overland Expedition, sold above estimate for £42,188. A fully-equipped converted camper which had a low mileage reading of 34,000, despite making trips across the world.
1932 MGJ2 achieved £31,500, surpassing its £25,000 top estimate. An early example of the 2000 classic pre-war British sportscars produced.
1912 De Dion Bouton DH Two-Seater, sold above estimate for £20,250. The most successful model produced by the French firm De Dion, once the world's largest motor manufacturer.
1989 Ford Escort RS Turbo. A modern classic 'Fast Ford', which had covered 84,000 miles from new, sold above estimate for £14,625.
Rob Hubbard, Head of Bonhams MPH, said: "We were pleased to achieve a strong and solid set of results in our second live auction of the year, which was well attended by enthusiasts."
The next Bonhams MPH auction will be The Beaulieu Sale, a two-day sale taking place on the weekend of 4-5 September at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, Hampshire.
