Picasso's Suite Des Saltimbanques Triumph at Bonhams Prints Sale

London - A rare complete series of Picasso's first printed works, La Suite des Saltimbanques, sold for £312,563 at Bonhams Prints and Multiples sale in London today, Thursday 13 June. It had been estimated at £170,000-250,000. The 171-lot sale achieved a total of £1,911,538

Bonhams Head of Prints and Multiples Lucia Tro Santafe said: "La Suite des Saltimbanques is a hugely important work among Picasso's graphic output, and is very rarely found complete. I was not surprised, therefore, by the keen bidding it attracted, nor by the high price it achieved."

Other highlights of the sale included:

Los Desastres de la Guerra by Goya. Sold for £100,000 (estimate: £50,000-70,000). The complete set of 80 etchings, executed between 1810-1820, depict the horrors inflicted on the civilian population of Spain by the armies of Napoleon Bonaparte during the Peninsular War (1808-1814).

Nude Reading by Roy Lichtenstein. Sold for £81,313 (estimate: £60,000-80,000) Nude Reading is part of The Nudes Series, one of three emblematic series Lichtenstein worked on towards the end of his life.

• Speedway by Sybil Andrews sold for £60,000 (estimate: £50,000-70,000). Speedway was originally conceived as a poster for the London Passenger Transport Board, but it was never produced.
