Los Angeles- Bonhams dedicated sale of The L.D. "Brink" Brinkman Collection, realized $8,375,500 with 89% sold by lot and 90% sold by value. The top lot of the sale was Coffee Coolers Meet the Hostiles by Howard Terpning, which realized $1,392,500 against a high estimate of $800,000. The sale saw spirited bidding in an exceptionally crowded saleroom with attendance from collectors and friends of L.D. "Brink" Brinkman, the renowned entrepreneur, philanthropist and art patron of Kerrville, Texas. The national tours, exhibitions, and auction generated huge interest driven by Western art masters such as Ernest Martin Hennings, Frank Tenney Johnson, Gerald Harvey, and many more.
An additional online-only auction, which opens for bidding worldwide on February 8, will feature 174 additional lots from the collection. For more information on the online-only sale, please click here.
Scot Levitt, Director of Fine Arts, remarked: "Bonhams is honored to have had the opportunity to sell such an exceptional collection of Western art, carefully assembled by L.D. Brinkman over the past 50 years. The success of the sale cements the lasting legacy of Mr. Brinkman as an astute collector and patron of Western art and artists. We look forward to continuing this momentum with additional works from the collection throughout the spring season, as well as an online-only sale, which opens for bidding today."
