Footnotes

Lanzirotti was born in Palermo. In 1863 he obtained the position of portrait sculptor to King Vittorio Emmanuele II. He then settled in Paris, where he established a studio. The Martin Foundry cast the majority of his work and may well have cast the present bronze which was conceived as a pair with a pendant figure of a boy with a parrot. See,Panzetta, Vol I p.p 162-63.
