Saleroom notices
Please note, in the book by John Wilmerding on Robert Salmon (Robert Salmon Painter of Ship & Shore, Peabody Museum of Salem, 1971), the listing for this painting reads as follows: No 723 71/2 Day. 24 x 16 1/2. The Revenew Schooner. On Spec. Solld Auction in Boston. 17 Doll. This confirms it was painted in Boston in 1831 and that the view is probably an outward view of the harbor.
