Footnotes
Augustus Keppel was appointed Commander in Chief of the fleet in March 1778. He was court martialled in January 1779 as a result of his unsuccessful actions against the French. He was subsequently acquitted and became a popular hero. The image is loosely based on the portrait by Reynolds.
