This stunning chimpanzee brooch, designed by Dr. Jane Goodall in 1990 and crafted by her friend, renowned Washington, D.C. jeweler Charles Schwartz, is a rare and meaningful piece deeply rooted in Dr. Jane's conservation work.
Charles Schwartz & Son—the oldest jeweler in Washington, D.C., established in 1888—brought Dr. Jane's vision to life in a design that doubles as both brooch and pendant. The chimpanzee delicately cradles what appears to be a Tanzanite, a nod to the rare and highly prized gemstone found only in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania, East Africa—paying tribute to the land and wildlife she has spent her life protecting. In fact, the gem is blue paste, thoughtfully chosen to evoke the beauty of Tanzanite while honoring the spirit of conservation.
9ct yellow gold.
The blue gemstone is blue paste.
The brooch weighs 9.51g.
