Provenance
Graham Slater Collection
This dramatic vessel, used for oil or possibly for wine, was a classic form made over a long period at Saintonge and nearby Chapelle-des-Pots, and these were widely exported. Many examples have been excavated in London and in other parts of Britain. A well-known specimen, with a pouring lip rather than a spout (pegau), was found by Henry Sandon at the bottom of a well in Worcester and is preserved in the archaeological stores of Museums Worcestershire.
