A rare British medieval 'Man with Mirror' tile, 14th century, and other European moulded tiles

The dark-glazed tile stamped with a figure, possibly a minstrel, standing within an arch, together with eight other moulded or stamped tiles, one possibly Flemish, stamped with a medallion of a horseman said to be after Hans Beham, 7-12cm wide (9)

An example of the 'Man with Mirror' tile was found at Dale Abbey in Nottingham and is now in the British Museum, see Elizabeth Eames, Catalogue of Medieval Lead-Glazed Tiles (1980), no.273. Two others formed parts of floors in Cistercian abbeys in Wales, at Strata Florida (Ystrad Fflur), near Pontrhydfendigaid in Ceredigion, and at Strata Marcella Abbey (Ystrad Marchell), near Welshpool, which is now in Powysland Museum.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
