Footnotes
Jean Varon was the label of British designer John Bates, whose work in the 1960s and 1970s was characterised by futuristic silhouettes and bold, theatrical designs. The name Jean Varon was deliberately chosen to sound French, aligning the label with the prestige of Parisian fashion at a time when British design was viewed as relatively conservative.
