A FRENCH MODEL 1854 HEAVY CAVALRY SABER,

The brass hilt with wide counter-guard having three branches connecting to the knuckle bow and pommel cap, leather covered and twisted brass wire wrapped grip; straight single-edge blade with false edge at the tip and two narrow fullers, the back of the blade etched "Mre Impale de chatt 8bre 1863= Caruber Mle 1854"; steel scabbard with two suspension rings.
Blade lg. 39 1/2, overall lg. 45 5/8 in.
Condition: Very good overall condition, hilt toned to deep yellow; blade has scattered spots of light gray toning; scabbard toned to gray/brown.
