A CARVED AMERICAN MAP POWDER HORN,
c. 1760.

The cream colored horn carved with an English royal coat of arms and an all over map of Hudson and Mohawk River regions and Lakes George and Champlain regions with associated forts, towns and villages; a blank rectangular cartouche with rising sun motif at the top and signed "GARRICK FECIT" below; flat wood plug secured to the horn by six wood pins; old, braided rawhide carrying strap.

Condition: Horn shows wear at expected contact points when resting on a surface, a few small insect holes near the base as well as old stable delamination, base plug has old surface and shrinkage cracks.
Wd. 12 in.
