"'Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.' ~ Dalai Lama, The Art of Happiness.

As a human I desire to live in a world where difference is not only embraced but celebrated. I believe embracing difference connects us to our humaneness. It makes our world a more loving, compassionate and richer place to learn and grow.

My work transports me to somewhere magical. A space where social constructs and labels dissolve and all that remains is the essence of love, vulnerability, and universal connection. A place where memory and life experience meet my inner child and all of me comes out to play. A place where I can dive in and explore love, unity, and the power of transformative work. My deepest desire, my dream, and promise to myself is to make the world a more caring and inclusive place. I believe love is contagious, and creating art allows me to explore and amplify that love both in and out of the studio."
- Cherie Harte

Artist statement: Cherie Harte is a multidisciplinary abstract artist, messenger, medium, and healer. Following in the tradition of Art Brut and inspired by social and environmental stewardship, Harte is best known for her playful exploration.

Using paint, sculpture, unwanted textiles, fiber, and found objects, Harte draws on her background in psychology, yoga, and reiki to translate intimate thoughts, moments, and feelings of daily life into her works. These works act as a metaphor for life, healing, and our undeniable interconnectedness.

Unapologetically flawed; Harte's work is an expression of freedom and experimentation inviting the viewer to acknowledge and honor all that is imperfectly beautiful, discarded, abused, abandoned, worthless, marginalized, and judged. Harte offers a healing salve to that which remains disconnected, hopeless, and unsympathetic while celebrating difference in an eternal yet provisional world.

Harte's work beckons us to enter an enchanted world, a dream state, where we investigate our modern definition of love, connect with our inner selves, confront our discomforts, cultivate empathy, and surrender to the magic we were each born to be.

Named a 'Must See Artist' at The Other Art Fair by Rebecca Wilson, Vice President of Art Advisory at Saatchi Art, and celebrated in Blog T.O.'s 'Top Artists to Watch', Harte's work was subsequently featured in the 75th anniversary exhibit of Peggy Guggenheim's 31 Women exhibition, as selected by Kate Bryan, head curator of SoHo House International.

Harte's work is held in collections internationally throughout Canada, the USA, England, Australia, Korea, China, Singapore, and Japan.

Harte is represented by Spence Gallery, Keele St, Toronto; Hoban Atrium, Seoul, Korea; Nihao Shalom Shalom, Tai Pei, Taiwan
