ATTRIBUTED TO HŌKI NO KAMI NOBUTAKA (ACTIVE CIRCA 1624-1643)

An Ōwari Naginata (Halberd) on Original Pole
Edo period (1615-1868), 17th century
Naginata-zukuri forged in itame-hada with a gunome-midare tempered edge based in nioi, ending in a ko-maru bōshi, chiseled on both sides with naginata-hi highlighted with red lacquer, the ubu tang with one hole and kiri and sensuki file marks; with a one-piece gilt-copper habaki; 20 1/2in (52.1cm) long
The saya decorated in brown textured lacquer, the wood pole fitted with copper fittings and decorated with two sections of inlaid crushed iridescent shell, the base with an iron foot; with an iron, cross-shaped tsuba
Accompanied by kantei certificate no. 14119 issued by the Nihon Tōken Hozon Kai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Sword), dated October 12, 1997 (2).
