A Harima Shintō Katana with Mounts
Edo period (1615-1868), 17th/18th century
Sugata (configuration): hon-zukuri, iori-mune, chū-gissaki, torii-zori
Kitae (forging pattern): itame-hada with ji-nie
Hamon (tempering pattern): chōji-midare in clusters of three with a moist nioiguchi, and nie, nioi and
Bōshi (tip): ko-maru
Nakago (tang): ubu, with one hole, keshō file marks, and signed Kawachi Daijō Fujiwara Shigesada
Habaki (collar): one-piece, gilt
Nagasa (length from tip to beginning of tang): 28in (71.1cm)
Motohaba (width at start of tempered edge): 1 3/8in (3.5cm)
Sakihaba (width before tip): 1in (2.5cm)
The koshira-e comprsing a later black-lacquer saya with a shakudō and gilt kurikata chiseled with a dragon on waves, a tsuka with green leather wrapping over black-lacquer same fitted with shakudō nanako fuchi-gashira chiseled with family crests, and large copper menuki formed as Fukurokuju and an attendant in a straw hat, signed Masayasu
Accompanied by Hozon Tōken (Sword Worthy of Preservation) certificate no. 3014803 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyokai (The Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword), dated February 2, 2017
Accompanied by Hozon Tōsōgu (Sword Fitting Worthy of Preservation) certificate no. 4015040 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyokai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword), dated February 22, 2019 (4).
