FOUR INLAID IRON TSUBA

Edo period (1615-1868), 18th/19th century
Comprising a rounded rectangular iron tsuba with a hammered-up rim, chiseled in relief and with details in gold and silver depicting an owl on a plum branch by moonlight;
a mokkō iron tsuba inlaid in gold with a dragon writhing through the surface, unsigned;
an outsized mokkō iron tsuba chiseled in relief with waves and pine trees and inlaid in gold, silver, and shibuichi, on one side a seated senior samurai with two cowering islanders, on the other side grasses and spray;
and an oval iron Jakushi tsuba chiseled in relief and with details in gold nunome-zōgan depicting a dragon and clouds, signed Jakushi
Each with a wood storage box
The fourth accompanied by certificate no. 449538 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword) dated February 16, 2006, designating this work as a Hozon Tōsōgu (Sword Fitting Worthy of Preservation)
4 1/2in (11.4cm) high, the largest (5).
