FOUR BRASS-INLAID TSUBA

Momoyama (1573-1615) or Edo (1615-1868) period, 17th/18th century
Comprising an almost circular Umetada-school iron tsuba, with a broad raised border, chiseled and with flat and raised relief of gold and silver depicting squirrels, grapes, and a butterfly;
a Koike Yoshirō circular iron tsuba, applied with a copper rim and inlaid in brass with leaves and tendrils, unsigned;
a Heianjō Zōgan type circular iron tsuba with a raised border and flush inlay silver and brass depicting paulownia flowers and tendrils;
and a rounded rectangular iron tsuba inlaid in gold and silver with paulownia leaves, unsigned
The second accompanied by certificate no. 3400 issued by the Nihon Tōken Hozonkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Sword) dated October 15, 1989
3 7/8in (9.8cm) high, the largest (4).
