AN IRON SUJI KABUTO

Edo period (1615-1868), 18th century
Comprised of five russet-iron plate with traces of red-lacquer, each plate with a broad iron shinodare riveted to it, the ten-pointed star-shaped-plate crown finished with a four-stage tehen kanamono of gilt-copper and brass, the mabizashi a simple peak in typical classical style, its underside coated with red-lacquer, the bowl fitted with a five-lame Hinneno-jikoro lacquered black and laced in dark blue and yellow, the small fukigaeshi trimmed with metal fukurin and applied with gilt-copper mitsudomoe heraldic crests, the front adorned with a gilt-iron maedate formed as a crescent moon
7 3/8in (18.7cm) high, excluding shikoro and maedate
