A LACQUERED IRON SUJI KABUTO

Edo period (1615-1868), 18th century
The 32-plate bowl constructed with standing ridges on the edge of each plate and covered in russet-brown lacquer, a slight depression at the crown surmounted by a six-stage gilt and shakudō chrysanthemum-form tehen kanamono, the bowl fitted with a six-lame Hineno-jikoro lacquered black and laced in dark blue, the small fukigaeshi trimmed in silver fukurin and applied with gilt-metal plum-blossom crests on stenciled leather, the interior of the bowl inscribed on the rear plate with the invocation Hachiman Daibōsatsu
6in (15.2cm) high, excluding shikoro
