Provenance
The sitter and thence by descent to the present owner
Sir Edward Monins, 2nd Baronet of Waldershawe, was the elder son of Sir William Monins, 1st Baronet of Waldershare (who died in 1643) and Jane Twisden, the daughter of Roger Twisden of Roydon Hall, Kent. He married Elizabeth Style, daughter of Sir Thomas Style of Wateringbury, and died in 1663. Captain Thomas Monins received a commission from Oliver Cromwell, although his subsequent behaviour suggested that he was a Royalist at heart.
