The design of the present work was first conceived in 1898. At least three proofs were executed for the Musée Rodin by the Alexis Rudier foundry between 1945 and 1952, followed by 8 proofs by the Scuderi foundry on behalf of the Georges Rudier foundry between 1962 and 1964. The present version was created for the Musée Rodin in 1961 by the Scuderi foundry on behalf of the Georges Rudier foundry using the lost-wax casting technique.
The present work will be included in the forthcoming Catalogue Critique de l'Oeuvre Sculpté d'Auguste Rodin in preparation by Brame & Lorenceau and Jérôme Le Blay (nº 2025-7337B).
