The present lot, with its distinctive twinning of bead-and-reel mouldings and lobed feet, is very typical of much of Gillows' output and several furniture designs he executed during the 1820s, several of the latter of which appear in his 'Estimate Sketch Books' for entries of the same period. The wonderful quality of the mahogany timber used for this whatnot, combined with its beautiful construction and a notable use of ring turned handles, are all characteristics also closely associated with pieces produced by the Gillows firm in circa 1825.
