MacCurtin (1680?–1755), an Irish poet and antiquary from Co. Clare, established his literary reputation having moved to Dublin in 1724, before travelling to the Irish Franciscan College at Louvain, where he published his The Elements of the Irish Language Grammatically Explained in English, "a work of considerable scholarship... [which] drew heavily from an unpublished manuscript grammar by Francis Walsh" (ODNB).
