6 signed photographs, comprising: 4 portraits of an elderly Chaplin, signed lower right (2 with "Many thanks"), 240 x 195mm.; Charlie Chaplin, Edward Knoblock and Douglas Fairbanks playing pool in 1920, signed on verso, printed c.1959, 185 x 235mm.; portrait of Chaplin aged around 20, signed on verso, printed 1931 and with Keystone View ink stamps on verso, 205 x 155mm.; together with a photograph of Douglas Fairbanks in a swimming pool on set, Chaplin beside, 1919-20 (annotated in Chaplin's hand "Doug going into water"), printed later, 100 x 125mm.; and four photographs annotated on verso possibly in another hand ("With Anna Pavlova at the Chaplin Studios", 1920-25, "Marilyn Nash and myself in a scene from Monsieur Verdoux", c.1946, "With Albert Einstein at the opening night of City Lights", 1931, "Snapshot taken by my wife Oona" on the terrace of the house at Vevey, 1960s), printed later, mostly 210 x 155mm., gelatin silver prints, (11)

Provenance: Max Reinhardt (1915-2002); his daughter and god-daughter of Charles Chaplin, Veronica Reinhardt (b.1964), the present owner. Proceeds from the sale will benefit MaxLiteracy (www.maxliteracy.org), a charity and educational initiative set up in memory of Max Reinhardt and his authors to stimulate literacy through the visual arts in partnership with museums, galleries, schools and writers.

There are four signed photographs of Chaplin in this lot (four portraits of an elderly Chaplin) and not six as stated in the catalogue. The photograph of Chaplin and Fairbanks playing pool and the young portrait of Chaplin are not signed in his hand.
