A pair of Eskimo scrimshaw pipes
Alaska, 19th century, each carved from a walrus tusk, the larger with a detachable mouthpiece, the head and fins of a seal positioned behind the bowl, which is in the form of a sea creature with sharp teeth, entirely decorated with engraved geometric designs, with animals and hunting and fishing scenes, the smaller with engraved geometric designs on the top and bottom, with a frieze of animals on either side, with round bowl and end terminating in a sea creature, mounted on a metal stand.
