Marion Harvey entered the Glasgow School of Art in 1903-4 aged 17, and she continued as a student there until 1906-7. As a day student, she studied drawing and painting from life. She trained under Paul Artot, a Belgian who taught 'the living animal', at the GSA, where a special studio was set up for this purpose. Her other teachers included James Morton Dunlop, who taught anatomy, and Maurice Greiffenhagen RA who was the life class professor.
Specialising in animal paintings, including those of dogs and horses, Harvey exhibited extensively from 1916 to 1965. Venues included, the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts (96), the Royal Scottish Academy (6), the Society of Women Artists (2), the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour (1), the AAS (2), and the Walker Art Gallery (19). She also held exhibitions at Connell & Sons Gallery and at the McClures Gallery, Glasgow, usually in March, and at the Scottish Kennel Club Show.
Harvey left a legacy of work, including a pair of red Dachshunds in the Kennel Club collection, and her work is represented in the Glasgow City Collection.
