A very rare mid 19th century mahogany quarter chiming domestic regulator with weight driven going train, and fusee driven striking system.

The drum head over a waisted trunk with fixed glass front panel and lift-out bowed glazed side panels, the visible backboard now set with dark blue velvet, over a concave shaped base and plain apron. The 13inch silvered Roman dial with outer five-minute track, shaped blued steel moon hands and chime/silent selection lever at XII, the subsidiary seconds dial with Observatory marks and counterbalanced hand. The movement with weight driven going train terminating in a jewelled deadbeat escapement with maintaining power and high count pinions, the long brass crutch to a mercury jar pendulum; the hour train with chain fusee striking on a large blued steel coiled gong mounted on a stand on the seatboard; the quarter striking train with chain fusee chiming on eight hammers and nested bells.
