Carved World War I Commemorative Frame
United States, c. 1920.
Art Nouveau wooden frame with photograph of a uniformed soldier identified as N.H. Frank, Company D, 53rd Regiment, Telegraph Battalion, A.E.F.S. (U.S. Navy acronym for Fleet Replenishment Ship), 1918-19, with relief-carved and painted decoration, including clovers and an eagle carrying the U.S. flag, on a stippled ground, 17cm wide, 2cm deep, 30cm high (7 3/4in wide, 1/2in deep, 12 1/8in high).
