Gelatin silver print; probably printed between 1942 and 1960; titled in pencil, annotated with the negative number 'US-1NPS-5' in ink, the photographer's stamp (BMFA 2), 'Canyon de Chelle/ by Ansel Adams' stamp, and other annotations and stamps on the reverse.

On the reverse of this photograph, the annotation '1-NPS-5' records the negative number of the image. According to Ansel Adams's numbering system, '1' indicates that this print was made from an 8-by-10 inch negative. 'NPS' denotes that this image of Canyon de Chelly was taken while Adams was working on commission for the National Park Service. '5' records the sequence number within the negative series.
