Max Weber's Winter Twilight has a long-standing tie to the Santa Barbara area. The work was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Buell Hammett for permanent loan to the Santa Barbara Museum in 1941. The present work was included in the Santa Barabra Museum's inaugural exhibition, Painting Today and Yesterday in the United States, and entered the museum's permanent collection in 1945.
