Folio (282 x 194 mm). Woodcut engraving of King Alfonso on horseback on title-page, with text in red and black. Early 20th century Morocco, gilt titles on spine, Morocco doublures, gilt dentelles, watered endpapers, all edges gilt, modern slipcase. Light scuffing and soiling to covers, margins slightly trimmed, light scattered foxing.
WITH: Chronica del muy esclarecido principe, y rey don Alonso: el qual fue parde Emperador e hizo el libro delas siete partidas.... Valladolid: at the expense and at the house of Sebastian Martinez, 1554.
2 parts in one volume, Folio (288 x 193 mm). 2 title-pages in red and black with woodcut vignettes and borders. 19th century Morocco gilt, spine with 4 raised bands, watered endpapers. Rubbed, corners bumped, gift inscription dated 1937, first title-page torn at lower outside corner and repaired with slight loss of text, first 3 leaves tipped to stubs, worming, numerous paper repairs to top edge margins and corners, scattered dampstaining and some marginal tape repairs.

FIRST EDITION, together with a later edition, of this chronicle Spanish of King Alfonso XI, who was instrumental in the Reconquista, taking Grenada and Gibraltar from the Moors. This work was published in honor of Prince Philip (later King Philip II), the son of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. Adams A-737; Brunet I:1879; Palau 64896; Sabin 56336.
