By family descent.
Exhibitied
Monterey, Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art, Colors and Impressions: The Early Work of E. Charlton Fortune, September 23, 1989 - January 14, 1990 [the exhibition also travelled to Laguna, Laguna Art Museum, February 3 – April 14, 1990, and Oakland, The Oakland Museum, August 15 - October 15, 1990].
The present work was likely painted in the garden of the present owners' great grandparent's home at Fillmore Street and Broadway in San Francisco, on the occasion of their granddaughter's wedding. The families were close friends for two generations, and the present work was a wedding gift from the artist to her friend, the bride.
