In the year 2002, Patek Philippe launched the maison's first reference combining a minute repeater with an annual calendar- Ref. 5033. It is driven by the coveted Cal. R27 PS QA, one of the maison's most complicated movements. Consisting 483 components, the Cal. R27 PS QA went thru multiple extreme quality control approvals before landing to the buyer's hand to chime out the perfect tempo and most beautiful sound of time. Apart from the acoustic joy, Ref. 5033 also incorporates an annual calendar, a function firstly introduced and patented by Patek Philippe in 1996. The annual calendar only requires to be adjusted once a year, is practical in its design and complexity.

This reference was produced mostly in platinum. Until it was discontinued in 2012, a total of approximately 80 pieces were made and only a handful of them have reappeared on the market. However, most of them came with silver dial. According to reach, Ref. 5033P with black dial diamond-set case, like the present example, was only appeared twice in the auction market. And this particular case and dial variation was only manufactured for 1 year only(2011-2012), which was indicated in the "Minute Repeaters" catalogue that Patek Philippe printed in 2013 (page 120).
