Provenance:
Purchased on 8 June 1808 by Napoleon I for the palais de Bordeaux
The present lot was purchased for the Emperor's use at his palace in Bordeaux and was intended as a dinner and dessert service. The Imperial couple stopped over in Bordeaux in Spring 1808 on their way to Spain. It was the Emperor's custom to furnish the different palaces he stayed in, such as the Palais Rohan in Bordeaux. See Camille Leprince, Napoléon Ier & la Manufacture de Sèvres (2016), no. 113.
