Footnotes

It is a little known fact that the cast and crew of Happy Days had a successful softball team. The team played games in Major League stadiums, as well as on tours of Japan and Europe, with guest stars such as Robin Williams, Tom Hanks, and Rob Reiner on occasion joining the team. Marion Ross, who played Mrs. Cunningham on the show, had fond memories of the game: "We played so much softball. It kept the cast together. I don't know if we would have survived if we didn't have that softball team."

"I never played sports before I got to the set of Happy Days. Ron Howard bought me my first mitt and Anson Williams, my first bat. Walter, our dialogue coach, taught me to pitch in between rehearsals. I was so proud to wear the uniforms as we travelled around America visiting 6 or 7 major league ballparks. Our team played exhibition games before the actual major league games in each park. The trips that the Happy Days Softball Team took to Germany and Japan were absolutely some of the best trips of my life. Our team played our fabulous troops at American bases across Germany and Okinawa. A few years ago, pre-pandemic, I was racing for a plane to Boston. A young woman with a stroller called my name. When she was 5 years old she watched the Happy Days Team play against her dad's team in Japan." - Henry Winkler
