Footnotes
There isn't a baby boomer in America who doesn't remember the intriguing artwork which opened and closed the transitions between commercials on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. According to the consignor, this particular work was a favorite of band leader and trumpet player Doc Severinsen. Carson hosted the show for 30 years, and for most Americans in the 1960s through the 1980s, watching "Carson" was the ritual late-night pastime. Carson retired in 1992 and is still the standard bearer to whom all late-night talk show hosts are compared.
