Footnotes

Few details are known about the present artist who was much inspired by Jan Davidsz. de Heem's still lifes of the first half of the 1650s. He may have been a Guilliam from the same family of the portraitist Guilliam van Deynum (c.1575-after 1624) and may have worked with de Heem in Antwerp.

We are grateful to Dr. Fred Meijer for confirming the attribution on the basis of a colour photograph.
