Acquired by the present owner from the above.

The present work was once in the collection of Lawrence L. Davis (1923-2019) of Bloomington, Indiana. Beginning in 1956 up until 1987, Davis served as the manager of the Indiana University Auditorium at Indiana University where Laurent was a Professor of Fine Arts from 1942 through 1961. In 1961 prior to Laurent's retirement, Laurent completed the famed Showalter Fountain that sits prominently in the Fine Arts Plaza in front of the Fine Arts Building and Indiana University Auditorium at Indiana University where both men worked. Davis and Laurent most likely became acquainted during their tenures at Indiana University and Davis, like his fellow faculty members, applauded Laurent's Showalter Fountain and the work that he did for the University. His admiration for Laurent's work and their relationship plausibly led Davis to acquire the present work from Laurent in 1964 several years after his retirement.
