A boxwood netsuke of tengu no tamago (hatching tengu)

Edo period (1615-1868), late 18th/early 19th century
The karasu (crow-beaked) tengu shown clutching a feathered fan with one hand and levering itself out of its egg with the other, one wing trailing over the shell; inscribed between the himotoshi on the underside Tametaka. 5.1cm (2in).
