RISHEL, JONAS. 1806-1833.

The Indian Physician, Containing a New System of Practice Founded on Medical Plants. New Berlin, PA: Printed for the author by Joseph Miller, 1828.
12mo (164 x 101 mm). Contemporary half sheep and patterned paper-covered boards. Heavily rubbed, dampstaining, especially to upper third of first 14 leaves, browning throughout.

An early publication on the medicine and healing of Native American tribes. Many of the cures may have been apocryphal, as Rishel credits himself with the successful use of some of the cures given in the book, but does little to shed light on his sources for the information. Shaw & Shoemaker 35045.
