probably originally painted and/or gilt
Each of square section form, with a tasselled drapery swagged and patera relief-carved frieze, above an acanthus, bellflower and scallop shell clasped tapering column, each approximately: 118cm high. (2)

A similar mahogany and parcel gilt pedestal to the offered lot, which follows a design by William Kent, was supplied to General James Dormer at Rousham, Oxfordshire in circa 1740. This fine comparable model appears illustrated in P. Macquoid and R. Edwards, The Dictionary of English Furniture, Vol. III, 2000, New York, fig. 5, p. 160.
